New York Film Academy in Kyoto, Japan
> Kyoto, Japan
Overview of New York Film Academy Kyoto
is the largest movie studio in Japan. It has full-scale replicas of houses and streets from the Edo period () and the Meiji period (). The site encompasses about 387,500 square feet. Numerous movies and over 200 episodes of period dramas for television are shot here throughout the year.
KYOTO was Japan's capital and the emperor’s residence from 794 until 1868. It flourished as the center of Japanese politics and culture for 1,100 years, until Tokyo became the capital in the mid-19th century.
Many ancient temples, perfect Zen Gardens and quiet shrines survive in Kyoto. Seventeen historic buildings, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Nijo Castle, have been designated World Cultural Heritage sites. There are still many great craftsmen living in Kyoto keeping the city's traditional culture and arts alive.
Enrollment
The New York Film Academy has an open enrollment. Serious students from all backgrounds are welcome to apply. No previous experience is required. However, all New York Film Academy Workshops are extremely intensive. Students who enroll should be prepared to live and breathe filmmaking during these workshops. Given the nature of filmmaking and the necessity of working in crews, students must be willing to devote themselves not only to their own projects, but to their classmates' projects as well. As space is limited, we recommend early application to guarantee a place in the workshop of your choice.
All courses are taught in English. However, interested students should take the opportunity to work on their conversational Japanese during the program. This will enrich their understanding and enjoyment of Japan.
Curriculum
In the Hi-Def film workshops, each student writes, produces, directs, and digitally edits his or her own films, and rotates among crew positions when his or her classmates shoot. Students receive extensive hands-on experience as a result.
Final Screening & Portfolio
At the conclusion of the workshop, a screening of the students' final films is held. This provides a unique opportunity for family, friends, and cast to see the work students have produced. Students retain a digital master tape of their work to include in their portfolios. Each student, upon successful completion of the program, receives a diploma.
NOTE: Cancellation and Refunds
To enroll and guarantee your place in this workshop, you may apply online or by mail and submit a $500 deposit that will be applied towards tuition. Full payment is due at least one month prior to the start of the workshop.
If you cancel your enrollment in the workshop, the following applies:
$500 is not refundable under any circumstances other than cancell Program fees (minus the $500 deposit) are refundable until June 1st prior to the summer of enrollment. No refunds are available after June 1st prior to the summer of enrollment.
In order to cancel once you have enrolled, please contact our admissions office. Failure to cancel prior to the April 1st deadline will result in a bill for the full program fee.
In the event that we must cancel a program, all enrolled students will be notified immediately and given a full refund of program fees (including the $500 deposit).

Green vegetables with root vegetables, beans with fruit: in East Asian art, depictions of fruits and vegetables are a never-ending stream. These familiar products of the earth express a cornucopia of ideals and hopes, resonant with feelings. Their natural forms, products of our world, are loved. In this exhibition we explore the transformations in how fruits and vegetables have been depicted, from China to Korea to Japan, from the Middle Ages to the modern period. Be sure not to miss the "Epic Battle of Vegetable Picture Scrolls," featuring two outstanding eighteenth-century Kyoto painters, Ito Jakuchu and Matsumura Goshun.
